Historical and popular town square for both tourist and public gatherings. It's a very beautiful square which is not overly large but still plenty of room to walk about. Plaza de Mayo is dominated by the presidential palace, the Casa Rosada aka The Pink House. I visited during December 2024 and there is a large Nativity Scene inside the grounds of the Palace. There is also the Monument to General Manuel Belgrano as well as the Plaza de Mayo Pyramid.

Very nice park. Every night at 7pm they have a ceremony to lower the flag. It was cool to see it. Being located where the park is, and in the current political climate, there were a lot of police and crowd control measures in place, but still felt safe and everyone was just hanging out.

Plaza de Mayo is like visiting the White House in Washington, it is that kind of tour. You can go there on your own. It is safe. It is a busy place. There are lots of police as La Casa Rosada, the Pink House which is the government seat is located. This is a fantastic place to people-watch and to take timeless photographs. This is the same area where all the city tour busses also pick up their passengers. I have visited this place 3 times, and on 3 different occasions over the years. Your experience will not get anymore touristy than Plaza de Mayo. Busses to La Boca stop on the right side of the plaza, just incase you wanted to extend your day to see other tourist site.

A fantastic open space for the pedestrians, surrounded by a church ( which we visited) and lovely buildings. There are few roaming dogs which were fun to watch. Very nice open area to visit in the middle of the city!

Many highlights in one place. You can also go to the beautiful streets of San Telmo which have a unique character. Alone to be in this place without walking is a highlight of your trip. My advice is to start from here and to see the Cathedral and then walk through San Telmo to its market which is a food court. You can try there local foods like Empanada.
