Dear John’s is one of those rare Westside institutions that actually lives up to its reputation. Classic without feeling dated, moody without trying too hard, this place understands exactly what it is. In my opinion, they serve some of the best steak on the Westside: perfectly cooked, deeply flavorful, and unapologetically old-school. Pair that with their top-tier cocktails, strong, balanced, and made the right way, and you’re reminded why places like this endure. The atmosphere is half the experience. Dim lighting, leather booths, and that unmistakable sense that generations of good nights have happened here. It’s a spot for real conversations, celebrations, and long dinners that aren’t rushed. If you want trendy, look elsewhere. If you want iconic, dependable excellence, steak, drinks, and vibe done right, Dear John’s is still it.

Went on a Saturday with a reservation. Walked up and our table was ready. Awesome. Best part of the experience. Way overpriced. I've been to Dear John's several times over the last 2 decades (I lived down the street.). To be clear, I don't mind paying money for good food, but the $74 ribeye was by far the worst one I've ever had. I ordered it MR and I could barely cut through it. It was fighting me the whole time, and it won. I had a few bites and called it like I was working in an ER. Sizzler has a better one. Get the filet. Much better cut.Tender and delicious but still $68.. Sides were very (very) small and they charge $10 for bread and butter. What? at a steakhouse? We ordered the oysters Rockefeller for an app and the waiter warned me there were only 3 to an order. I couldn’t tell if it was a warning for the price ($20) or trying to pad our bill. They were good, not great. Food was decent other than the ribeye, but not worth the $609 price tag (after tip) for four people. ($115 was for 7 cocktails.) Service was OK. It was packed so I will give a small pass on the timing, but the waiter messed up our drinks twice. No more piano to set the mood like the old days. Just very low random music playing over the speakers which can't be heard over the loud crowd. It’s extremely dark inside, so be ready to use the table candle or pull out a flashlight to read the menu. So much for ambiance. It’s basically a crowded, loud, and dark Marie Calendars. I went. I tried. I don’t think I will be back. It was a good run DJs. So long.

Come in, relax and enjoy. It made me miss smoking. Our server’s timing was perfect. The Caesar Salad, the best we’ve ever had. The broccolini, mashed potatoes, ribeye, lobster - everything delicious. I wish there was one where we live.

Never knew this place was here. It's super dark, plush bar, candles and Sinatra playing. Sold. I Sat at the bar, the bartenders were cool and the drink I got was amazing. The food was delicious. I got the ribeye along with broccolini and steak fries. The next time I go I want to try the macaroni and cheese. I look forward to coming back and trying some different meals.

The food was good. My steak could have used more salt. But the steaks were good, the mash potatoes were good and the garlic bread was tasty. My French onion soup was good but I've had better. The daiquiri with grapefruit was meh. The vesper was better. Now the table side Caesar salad for $28. I liked the flavor but my girl said it was too acidic. But here's my gripe the waiter half heartedly said I can't make the salad table side cause there's no room (there was if he actually tried) but here's my point if I'm paying $28 dollars for table side presentation and you make the salad out of our view then you need to knock 10 dollars of that joke of a price. Pretty pathetic of Dear John's. I booked this place for our third anniversary. No desert on the house and zero mention of it from the staff. Which leads me to half hearted service. Our main waiter was awkward. A lady tried to take the last of the Cesar salad away. I had to tell her 3 times not to take it. I asked the main waiter for an extra napkin and he never brought it so I had to ask someone else. Food is good. Service is way off. Drinks are ok but not for $18 a pop. I wouldn't come back.
