This place was amazing with food & presentation of the food. I loved the lions mane the most. The sushi was also delicious, and innovative to accommodate gluten free and vegan. The dessert vegan ice cream was also delicious. This is a reservation type restaurant so make reservations online prior if possible. They were able to accommodate me without a reservation, but I had to wait a little.

I went here for my birthday dinner and couldn’t recommend this place enough! so much care was put into every detail of this restaurant. the menu even lists health benefits of main ingredients. i am vegan and gluten free and couldn’t believe a gluten free vegan japanese restaurant existed! the staff were all so welcoming and kind and helpful, they made our experience unforgettable. they even brought out a surprise birthday candle and cookie for me and my friend (who had a birthday the day before mine) I will absolutely be back any time i visit LA! we tried and shared many menu items, i think a favorite of mine was the dynamite roll and the lions mane karaage. we had strawberry shortcake and apple cinnamon cake for dessert which were also fantastic! i ate so much food but felt amazing still! thank you thank you thank you! what a perfect way to spend a birthday

Shojin was absolutely amazing. The customer service was incredible. The staff was so so so nice and super friendly the entire time. They accommodated us so well and made the whole experience feel special. Even though you eat vegan sushi it feels like normal sushi!! The sushi was honestly 10/10. Taste was absolutely fire 🔥 Easily the best sushi I’ve had in all of LA. Highly recommend this place if you want amazing food and even better service!!!

Shojin is incredible! The space is really beautiful, with very intimate 2-seater tables in the back room perfect for a date night or special night out. Service was amazing, complete with hand towels before the first appetizer and great descriptions/explanations of every dish as they’re being brought out. The food is thoughtful and everything is vegan and gluten free and made in house. They also don’t use normal sugar. We tried the shojin green gyoza, lion’s mane karaage, Shoj-in-n-out hand roll, purple treasure 5.0, and the harvest curry ramen. Everything was delicious. The ramen was a great portion size. We got share plates and split it. The hand roll was a cool experience because it comes unrolled and you roll it yourself. The purple treasure 5.0 is an eggplant roll and the eggplant pieces on top were intense, way bigger than I was expecting and so juicy. Also a lot of the rolls have “torched at the table” written next to them on the menu. When they bring them to the table they fire it right in front of you and it’s really cool to see. We tried the dessert that comes with miso cookies, black sesame ice cream, and matcha chocolate truffles- this combo of flavors was excellent and surprising. I had never tried miso cookies before and they were so good. For drinks we tried the golden hour mind, which is a functional zero proof cocktail, and the orange yuzunade, which was my favorite and is like an orange juice mixed with lemonade and yuzu. I don’t drink alcohol so it was exciting to see so many thoughtful non-alcoholic drinks on the menu. It was a little pricey, but the food was amazing and the vibes were so nice and the service was fantastic, plus you can really tell the menu is crafted very intentionally. I’d say it is worth the price and then some. I’d love to come back and try an omakase sometime, and if I lived in the area I’d come around every season to try the seasonal items.
